Why fear?
I've not tried any of his mics yet, but his preamps are excellent. Very Grace-sounding (if you like that sound) at a fraction of the price.
Be bold and try it out! That's the kind of stuff that makes the hobby fun. Trying out stuff that's new or not widely known in the "common" circles. If you just go with the "conventional wisdom" when it comes to mics, pres, etc. you're not advancing the knowledge base and opening people's eyes (and ears) to new possibilities. Be a trailblazer, not a sheep (that's what I always say).

You may not get exactly what you expect out of it, but I can almost certainly guarantee you won't make BAD recordings with it.
