Line QM12i mic??
« on: December 27, 2008, 04:18:16 AM »
People have used the Soundfield surround-sound mics, or the tetrahedron mic from core-sound, but has anyone tried the Line Audio QM12i?

With the current exchange rate, it's about $1k... I fear what the results are. GS didn't have much.

Why fear?

I've not tried any of his mics yet, but his preamps are excellent.  Very Grace-sounding (if you like that sound) at a fraction of the price.

Be bold and try it out!  That's the kind of stuff that makes the hobby fun.  Trying out stuff that's new or not widely known in the "common" circles.  If you just go with the "conventional wisdom" when it comes to mics, pres, etc. you're not advancing the knowledge base and opening people's eyes (and ears) to new possibilities.  Be a trailblazer, not a sheep (that's what I always say).   ;D

You may not get exactly what you expect out of it, but I can almost certainly guarantee you won't make BAD recordings with it.

Fair, I did it with the BSCS-L, I guess it can happen again. My fear remark was primarily targeted toward the stereotypical "you get what you pay for", however upon thinking more about it, I can disprove that in my own experience. (note; no more posting on TS late at night).

I may put the scratch together and see. The bummer is I'd have to save up for a 4ch or borrow one each time I wanted to really play with this outside of XY... Something for the future I guess.

Ran across the website & mic a while back.  Interesting for sure.  I really want to hear about this one.  Keep us posted.

Would love to know where I could see one of those Line preamps and check out their mics.  Looks like you have to send Line an email if you wanna buy their products.  Anyone know of a US rep or dealer?
Now you see it:  ADK 51TL,  or MK4/41>KC5>CMC6, or AT4051b/4049a > Wendt X2 > R-09HR
Now you don't:   CA-14c  or DPA4061 > CA ST-9100 > R-09HR

No US rep or dealer.  I tried several times and never got a response.  I think the guy makes this stuff in his basement, so if you want it you probably have to buy direct.
