Recorder that supplies phantom to mini stereo jack?

i just picked up a pair of DPA 4061s that terminate in a single stereo mini-plug.  as i understand it, there are some portable recorders that will drive those mics via power from the mini-jack, without needing to go through a separate preamp/phantom supply.

can someone tell me which portable recorders will drive the DPA 4061s using only the stereo mini plug/jack setup?  ie, i want to plug the 4061s striaght into the portable recorder.  thanks.

MT24/96 or MT II. However, the 2496's mic input is not of very good quality, as I understand it. The MT II's is probably better. Both supply 5 volts plug in power which is the minimum the DPA's need.

No recorder supplies phantom power to a mini-jack.

However, many portable recorders supply low voltage "plug-in power" to a stereo mini-jack.

Phantom power heeds a balanced line and (normally) an XLR connector.

Plug-in power is unbalanced and is normally about 5V on a stereo mini-jack - normally on consumer equipment only.

Not sure if  i am reading it wrong but in the Marantz PMD 620 manual it says under power consumption , phantom power 5V, 1mA, I take that to mean what it feeds the mic in?

john - the micro track II specs say that it provides 48v phantom power.  since it has no XLR inputs, i suppose it is either supplying 48 v to the 1/4" inputs or to the stereo mini jack.

It supplies "plug-in" electret condensor type power (may or may not be full 5V - fmaderjr said above that it is and will power the DPAs) on the 1/8" mini and supplies 48V phantom power on the 1/4", which are balanced TRS jacks. Based on the specs:

The MT II P48 feeds the 2 1/4 TRS jacks!  I don't think it is reliable, and if you go that route you would need an external power source.

Some people say "phantom" when they mean "plug-in power" and it looks as if this is the case here.

5V is not a phantom voltage - phantom is normally specified as 48V - though 24V and 12V are also allowed.

Phantom *must* be balanced.

This would be to standard TRS 1/4" jacks and not the stereo mini-jack.

Microtrack provides 5 volts plug in power to the 1/8, which is enough to run the DPA 406O series. Phantom power, if switched on, is provided to the 1/4's.

Since Darktrain added that the PDM 620 provides 5 volts to the 1/8 also (it would be plug in power, not phantom), that may prove to be a better choice if the price difference is worth it to you. I've had no problems with a MT 24/96, but you do need to use an external battery pack for decent running time (I think an MT II may run a good bit longer on the internal).

But I can't comment on which have "enough" juice to drive this particular DPA.

As I understand it, the Olympus LS-10/11 provide more than most.

As for Microtrack, I have one, and it's really crap, in so many ways.  It's about to go on eBay, now I have a PCM-M10, which seems to be brilliant.  About the only situation I'd ever want an MT is for the digital input. 

As for the Microtrack v2, if I've read things right, the mic input may actually be worse/noiser than the orig MT.  See this link

This couldn't be more incorrect. Most of the small recorders popular here do not. The Edirol R-09 & R-09HR, the Sony  M10 & D50, and the Olympus  LS-10 & LS-11 definitely do not. The Microtracks do provide 5 volts and according to Darktrain, the Marantz PMD 620 does also.

I never used a BB with my HLSC's or the AT853's(both 4.7k mod) with the pmd620, i always just went mic in with the -12 pad enabled and had great results in loud spl situations, was nice not having that extra piece in the chain

Ah, sorry for getting confused!  So it seems most of these recorders produce less than 5v (unloaded).
