left channel failure. What may have caused this?

Hi!

Had one of my recordings failing recently making the bottom half of the left channel looking "damped"  (see picture).
What may have caused this?

Lineage: 2xNevaton MCE400  -> XLRs to 5 pin adapter -> tinybox -> recorder.

and also is there any way to restore/fix the left channel?

I have recorded succesfully with that exact chain of gear before so this is the only time I´ve encountered this problem! :(

Maybe a stupid question but would it be possible to copy/paste the bottom half of the right channel to the bottom half ot the left? 
Or would that sound very wierd?

What in general causes assymetrical clipping like this?

doesn't work that way.

I'm gathering it sounds like ass. One thing you might try is using a clip restoration tool on it. Sometimes they can diduce enough information with whats there to figure out what the bottom section might sound like, but I wouldn't hold out hope.
