hi adrianf74

thanks again mate.

re (roll both open and stealth with all of the mics that I own; in the case of the cards, I use them when I'm in a room with a lot of chatty people or in a situation where I can't get close to the stacks otherwise I run the omnis. I'm partial to the sound of the omnis mics but this is my personal opinion.  You might like the cards better (or because of where you have to record from, you're a bit further back).  Cards will deflect talkers, etc., where as the omnis capture everything (but have a more "normal" sound to my ears).
)
yea thought as much. (might eventually get use to setting the m10 and being able to leave it closer to band (so will use onmi's) but as u stated the cards are the one atm due to my position..

I think i'll be getting the 9100 and the ca-14's (cards) and possible the omnis (if i can get a good deal for whole order)

Listen once again thanks and hopefully others on the forum will chime in as mush as you have ;).

thanks to all and look forward to hearing your opinions.

@Lt-Cartman: You're welcome... once again.

For the money, I'd say get both the CA-14 cards and then experiment with placement, etc.  You may find one works better or sounds better to your own ears.  I know Chris has a bundle available for both CA-14's with the 9100 pre.  His current deal (for TS members) is both CA-14 mics and a preamp for US$279 (~€210)  with airmail shipping.  You'll also need a 1/8" cable to get from the preamp to the deck - I had a techflex one made with right angle for the recorder and a straight connector into the preamp; IIRC it was around US$20 (~€15).  Look at this way, with the €110 you're saving on not getting the D50, you're paying €115 for the mics and a preamp with cable.   :)

Also, be forwarned that your order will take a few weeks to be built, tested, and sent out (once you pay via PayPal) but his stuff is well worth the money (many people here have said as much).  There is better out there but it will cost significantly more.

Hi again. You stated

I presume you mean get one stereo set of cards and one stereo set of omni's ?

So the deal for ts members will contain 1 set of stereo omni ca-14's and 1 set of stereo ca-14 cards and the 9100 pre Amp for $279 if so thats a brilliant deal. Sweill get him to make up the techflex cable also

Yea I know about the lead time involved. Thanks btw for the heads up

Nice maths skills. :)

Yes, one set of each mics comes in the bundle.  You can tell Chris I sent you his way (if you feel so inclined) but he's a good guy to deal with and makes damn nice gear for the money.  The techflex cable is a nice one because it can be bent into a pretzel pattern if you felt so inclined with no damage to the cable.   I would suggest getting a right-angle connector for the end you're gonna connect to the deck as it places less stress on the input jack which is the one thing you can easily damage.

Good luck with your captures... feel free to drop me a PM if you ever have other questions on setup once they arrive.

Thanks. :)  He's around on weekends but usually just responds "casually" when time permits as he's usually busy fulfilling orders (he is a one-man shop afterall).  Best of luck!

one final question for you.

re the d50 for €300 (still have a chance to nab it (comes with wind muff also thrown in) - just a thought if i got the d50 now (and used the built in mics for the moment) and in a few months (as cash permitted) added the ca-14 mics + preamp etc would the d50 (with the ca-14's and preamp) perform as good as the m10 would with the ca-14's and preamp

I have a D50 and I really don't think much of the internal mics.  Church Audio mics sound much better than the internals on the D50.  I would go with M10 + external mics instead of using the internals on the D50.

Nope, I wouldn't go the route of the D50.  I think, as jlykos just mentioned, you're better to go the route of the M10 and spend the extra money saved on mics/pre/etc.

Not sure if this will help you or not, but I did a comparison of the D50 vs. M10 line-in here:

http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=148596.0

You can hear both recorders and read the Forum responses.

No one seemed to find the D50 preamp noisier than the M10.

Good luck!
