There is a hold function.  From the FAQ:

except for a 200 ms hold of the stop/pause button.

In bold is the relavent part of that quote.

There is no way to lock the buttons such that bumping the stop key will not interrupt recording.   I would not consider that a "hold function" in the most strict sense.

What are you talking about?  It says right there that holding the brightness button and tone oscillator button together will lock all of the front panel controls.

Now if you don't have it in this "hold" mode and you are recording, only a 200ms press of the stop button will stop the recording.

I tried it on my 722.  With the panel buttons locked, record and stop are still active.

You can't accidentally power off, but you can accidentally hit stop.

Weird.  I wonder why the FAQ says otherwise.  Maybe they'll be changing that in a firmware upgrade...

OK, Nick at Tims house...has anyone successfully gotten a 24 bit file off the 722 and into wavelab or any other program?  We can open his Mule show from last night in CD Wave and it shows accurately at 24 bit, but when we try to open the file in Wavelab, it shows file type unknown and sample at 16bit.  When we open it there is nothing there.  This is the same file that works in CD Wave.  Not a computer problem either as it did the same thing at my house yesterday...

thoughts?

I'm a mac geek, but here are some things I learned along the way about BWF that may help.

First, I'm going to assume that you have a 2 channel source. If that's the case (and I suspect it is). Try saving in a mono Wave format. Some applications don't like BWF, try another format.

Try using audacity or some other application to open the file, then save it again as a wav file. It's possible that the file has some metadata that the sound application doesn't like. If that's the case, saving it again from some other application should fix that problem.

Hopefully one of these things will work... I think it's great that folks have finally gotten exciting new gear.

I think that the faq is not as well written as it could be, but I still read that paragraph as meaning that the stop button is active during panel lock out.  200ms hold time for a button like that is a pretty weak threshhold.  And the button is not protected behind a fence the way the V3 controls are.

I agree that SD needs to modify the software to include the stop button as one that is affected by hold.  I can see this biting someone in the ass when stealthing.

Because as we all know, this thing was meant to be stuffed down your pants, so getting bit in the ass is a serious concern.  ;D

When it came out of the box, did it say, " I am REAL !" like the M&M on the commercial ?

+T and congrats on a really nice piece of gear.

so, i was able to get the file to resave from audacity and then open in wave lab, the only problem is that when I save it, it says it is a 16/96 instead 24/96, anyone else with this problem?  I can tell a definate difference then when I convert to 44.1 in wave laba nd burn it down, the show sound smuch more boomy and bassy than it did prior, so I am guessing something automatically filtered it down.  What have you other folks been using and have you got any tips on converting???  Thanks!

Because most of my shows are multi-track, I have to use a DAW to even get them ready for CD. For this I'm using Digital Performer 4.5, then I use Bias' Peak once I bounce the tracks to a two track 24-bit file.

I played with the Mac OS X version of Audacity, but I wasn't crazy about it, but I don't remember it having to convert 24-bit files to 16 bit files. hmmmm.... Sorry.

tim  - have you tried Soundforge?  I have had no problems opening 24 bit files in SF 6.0 and doing the necessary edits and changes to down to 16/44.1.
