Glow in the dark blanket for wrapping around stand base?

Hey all.... I've been trying to think of more ways to make my stand stand out in the dark to help people avoind it.  I tried wrapping some glow ropes around the stand but that seemend to attract more people than it turned away (and gets expensive after a number of shows).  I've bought some florecent paint to cover the base but have not used it yet (don't want to gunk up the hinges).  I've also ordered some of the glow in the dark planet stickers that you put on your celiing when you were a kid.  I think I am going to try these next.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a glow in the dark blanket that can be wrapped around the base.  I did see one several weeks ago that had those fiber optic lines weaved through the material but it was pretty expensive.... $80... The add said sutable size for placing around the base of an xmas tree.  It did look like it could be modified to run from a RC battery and the patterns the light displayed were programmable.  So you could do designs or keep away messages.  Sounds like a sweet solution but maybe a bit overkill.

Any ideas?

I used to carry a 5" portable neon black light.  I rubber-banded it directly underneath the stand (in the middle of the three legs) and it illuminated the entire diametric region of the stand base, but did not product light vertically at all.  Worked like a charm...everyone wanted to know what it was, so glanced down and NEVER stepped on my stuff.

i have a couple of those LED flashers that were just laying around the house, so i repurposed them for signal lights for my gear.  dont use them all the time, but are really helpful when i'm a solo tapir.

i did just recently pick up some glow in the dark paint (it was only 1.50 at target).  when i saw it, my first thought was, "neat, i can paint the legs of my stand".  however, i havent done that yet...

i was also thinking some of that highly reflective tape... maybe taping a couple of strips in a stripe like pattern on the lower legs....

I've found as long as I'm reasonably diligent blocking, I have no problems.  I keep a flashlight handy, and if I see someone heading towards my stand / gear, I highlight a safe path for them.  IME, no amount of bright stuff is going to deter the true bozos - so I'm always prepared to block physically, if necessary.  There is no magic-bullet here, IMO.

just like moths to the flame, the wooks will go for the day-glo or anyhting bright - don't you KNOW  mic stands are just vertical RAILINGS TO HOLD ON TO?!!!!   ...aside from razor-wire, or personal body-guards for your stand,  I think that due diligence is the only thing that will prevent unfortuneate accidents. I'm lucky, I have a younger brother who has no problem man-handling the errant wook.

I'm pretty lucky in that the typical venue in Tempe gets you behind the board and out of the way... However, prime sound is not there.  It amazes me the people that will decide to cut between the back of the board and the stands to get to the other side of the venue when there is literally 30' of empty space behind the taper section.

I may be taking my life into my own hands but I am going to try to go FOB for Les C next week.

I think I am going to try to add the star/planet stickers and do some kind of tape on the feet.  Thats what people usually hit.... When the manfrotto is fully opened they really stick out. 

The XMas tree blanket would be a real cool solution but I think it would just draw too much attention.  I've heard there is a hack where you can program patterns/messages/images to be displayed on the blankett if you know a bit of c++ (which I do).  I'm thinking of getting one for the hell of it and then have the 'rings' of the blanket correspond to level meters so at -3 or so the entire blanket would be lit and it would change with the strength of the music.  It's probably one of those things that are fun to hack and play with but would f*ck me in the end.

So on sort of the same topic when recording with split omnis does anyone have any suggestions for covering the XLRs.  I'm thinking of running split about 15' for SCI in Flag.  I'm hoping if I work it right I can run the cables under others rigs to keep them out of the way of passersbuy.

Experience with recording Big Bands from best mic positions ON THE DANCE floor prompted me to purchase 3 bicycle/pedestrian clip on LED flashers.  These are triangular shaped with three LEDs, flash very brightly in a few choices of patterns, and are really cheap to buy.  Placed these on the tripod legs and these seemed to keep most everybody at a safe distance while dancing their butts off in complete abandon to that 'big band beat.'

I use one of these ....just hang it down so it lights up the stand....It works nice...has seven different modes depending on the "mood"

Mmmm... Glo-Tube... This actually seems pretty perfect for what I want and blue should match the R-4 display really well.  Maybe just add some kind of home made tinfoil cone around the top so the light just goes down.

You laugh... But I actually have 3 of these mounted on my house.  One to light the back yard and one on each side.  They are awesome!  The only thing that pisses me of is the motion detector is so sensitive it will pick up birds and squirls.  Luckily sensitivity can be turned down so trees in the wind etc don't trigger it.
