i've been gently slammed here about about using a headlamp.  daryan posted pics form mule 9:30 a few years ago, and the heat was turned up a bit.  "we already look like a bunch of geek's", etc...

i love mine and have at least three, since i use them for my day job also, peering around behind racks of audio gear.  also, indespenable in theatre, camping, working on car in dark, etc...

the geek shall inherit the section...
really got guff (sp?) for using one?  man, i haven't gotten mine out in the concert scene yet, damned if i'll get wacked for trying to see what in the bag.  i got, what i thought, was a nasty look at a WSP concert back in october from a fellow taper when i sparked the bic lighter to check levels... had a jb3 at the time, come to think of it i think that was my first show i taped.

I have both a red and white version of the Ultra, and a cheapo Energizer headlamp I received for Xmas a few years ago that has a red/white toggle switch.  I prefer the headlamp since it's hands-free and chomping down on the aluminum to hold the Ultra in my mouth isn't the most pleasant experience for me.  Yes, the headlamp is geeky, but very functional.

I keep a Petzl Zipka in the bag. It's small enough to throw in my pocket when I'm done setting up and I can grab it to shine some light on the floor when somebody is walking by. I keep the green lens cover on it so it's not so obnoxious.

This one rocks.  I have a regular headband one too which is more comfortable if your wearing it for a while, but the small size of this thing can't be beat.  About the size of keys in your pocket, just less pointy.

I like the red lens over a white LED.  Preserves your night vision and is usually plenty of quality light.  It's a much better quality of light than a lamp with a red LED which is only emits a very narrow frequency light and is harder to see with.

just a trusty old maglite here.  Although I have seen folks add these to their maglite to keep from chipping teeth...
