Formatting an SD card on R-09
« on: July 17, 2007, 10:17:23 PM »
Well, my R-09 arrived today and I'm wondering how long it takes for the  SD card to format! It's been "processing"  :Pfor several minutes now. Could be I failed to update the software before trying to format a 4gb SDHC SanDisk Ultra II card?  Can and R-09 users advise. The fun begins! rWc3523 8)

I also received my R-09 today and formatted a 4GB Transcend card.  I didn't time it but it definitely took several minutes to format it.  When it was done I went in and checked the card status and it said it was 3.74GB formatted.  Does that sound about right?

All I know is I'm getting really frustrated. I downloaded the 1.20 update and can't seem to get it transferred to the R-09! I purchased a SanDisk 4gb Ultra !! SDHC. The 64 mg that came with the unit works. Wish I could help you out but I'm lost right now. Guess I'll call Edirol tomorrow!  :-\ rWc3523 8)

Mine is a SanDisk 4gig SDHC it shows 3.78GB total space, I just formatted and it did the deed in about 12secs.

I hope you aren't having trouble with your machines.  I would guess the cards are the issue.  I know that I read somewhere that there are certain card brands that do not play well with the R-09 but i'm not sure what they are.

Also, if it were me i would try formatting the card with windows then try putting it back in the R-09 and format it again.  IMHO that would be a good test just to see if will straighten up and it sure couldn't hurt any!

You running XP or higher?  if so just plug in the reader and let windows find it.  It will show just like any other drive in your My Computer, then just right click the drive and go to click on format, pick quick format and let it run.

Are you sure the "Ultra" cards will work?  That may be the issue.

Did you buy your R-09 from BPM music?  If so I would call them first if I were you.

formatted the card in windows. Tell me this, I can't get the firmware update installed. That could be the problem. I downloaded it, but how do I get it installed!!! This is getting irritating! >:( Thanks for the help so far, though.

your gonna have to RTFM for that one man.  ;)  Mine came with the 1.20 firmware already installed so I never had to do it.

BTW your probably spot on with that idea.  i seem to remember the 4GB cards weren't recognized until 1.20.  I also seem to recall installation instructions on the Edirol site, same page where you got the firmware......

lemme know how goes it.

:D :D Ah, success. I'm not one for manuals, etc. and I missed a step (been at it for a while, too). :P  Had an idea what the problem was and eventually sorted it out. Got the update installed and card formatted!! ;D And yes, mine shows 3.78 gb! And the unit records fine. Thanks for all the help guys! Probably won't be the last time to ask!!

I thought a number of people on here have said not for format the card in windows before using it in the R-09.

My R-09 came with 1.20 on it.  Just for the hell of it I went back through the menu again and re-formated the card and it only took a second or two.  I have another brand new Transcend 4GB SHDC card that I'll put in tomorrow and format and time how long it takes.

Oh, it didn't take but a few seconds once I got the 1.20 firmware installed. I was afraid that was the problem. I just missed a step (hold record while turning the R-09 on) which installed the update. After that, the SanDisk Ultra II 4GB SDHC formatted fine and is ready to go! rWc3523 8)
