SP c-4 set up....
« on: January 19, 2008, 10:54:17 AM »
Ok, kind of new with only 8 months recording under my belt, all of it with a Rode NT-4 stereo mic....easy set up, none.  Now my question is:

I just bought a pair of SP c-4 mics and would like know the best way to set them up in different situation, ie: bar, out doors, etc....

I know this topic is probably old, but can not seem to locate a chart or easy explination to this difficult topic with no one solution...

any help is well appreciated....

That is because there is no easy answer.  There are tons of stereo mic configurations that shine in different situations.  Nothing is writtin in stone and experimentation is key.

Here are a few things I have found helpful:

- Omni's sound great outdoors.

- Cards in ortf gives a natural sounding image.

- Cards in DIN gives a fat bass responce

- Cards xy gives less bass response

- Hypers sound thin, unless they are AKG's

I could make a hundred generalizations, but there is no panecia

here is a link to the mic config template sticky...

C4s are easy to get in different configs since they are so small. I second what Fred WIII says above.
Those are good starting points but there is no easy answer.

I used NOS way FOB alot when I had my C4s.

fred....when you say omni's are great outdoors, do you mean fully open, no roof or would that also include shed with roof (depending on size)....just curious, never ran omni's but always looking for the best setup in all situations...thanks. i assume proximity to the stacks is important with omni's no...closer the better?

thanks.
