I bought 2 of the 5k80 units for my Deva. It came with 40 gig model, then I bought two extra trays, so I could simply slide them out as I needed. This way I'm not tied to a computer. I can simply record and record and keep going that way until I fill 200 GB. I've actually been thinking of getting one more 80 GB drive, but so far I haven't filled a single 80 GB drive. (And I've erased very little so far).

I installed a Fujitsu 4200rpm 80G drive, 129.00 from newegg.  I went with the 4200 to save power.

I may do that for Mule this sunday.  722 alone for one set and add in the V3 for the other.  My problem is I have no way to host the files.

Why not split the mic cables and run the V3/722 concurrently - much easier to do the comp from a listening perspective that way.  I'm sure we can find a way to host the files - plenty of us here with broadband to seed the BT.  Edit to add:  I suppose if you're running 24-bit, a secondary recording device might be harder to come by.

You gonna do 24- or 16-bit comps?

Only 2 channels on the 722.  I want to run the comp at 24/96, so the D7 stays home.

I know doing it across sets is not ideal, but the sound at Mule is pretty solid all the way though so I think it's as close as I can get with out another 722.

At some point, I'm going to borrow a friends V2 if he stilll has it and try that comp too.

BTW, the headphone monitoring configuration is just the menu navigation operating differently than how the other menu navigation works.  I wrote SD and they called to help.  It took about 2 minutes to explain and it's clear to me now.

Running this thing was a breeze last night.   I was a little worried about battery time.  The box powers on and is ready to record in much less time than I can load a DAT tape to my D7, so it's no problem to leave it powered off until just before it is needed.

Yup, that's what I figured.

Agreed.  Looking forward to hearing more!

Here is a question for all of you new 744 and 722 users. If you decide to run 24/96 (I've given this up myself and use 24/48), what options are there when the file goes over 2 or 4 GB in size? What happens on the reverse side of things (i.e. bringing it into the computer where this is much more of an issue)?

I've done that and it works. But I urge you to get a slate and have someone call out the different scene and take numbers. Especially if the movie will be cut using the guide audio. Otherwise it becomes a roayl PITA to find the right take with 8 almost exactly similar waveforms (if the actors are consistent). Tell the editor to make notes of which take that was selected.
Just a heads up.

Thanks! +T
