Here is a good link that will pretty much answer every question for non-722 owners. This thing seems to be rock solid!!!

Edited to say I cannot wait for someone to use this badboy with a Soundfield!!!

that being said, I am still holding out hope someone comes out with a HD recorder with no pre/AD section....just dont see myself getting rid of my V3 anytime soon...

I'm not even sure if this is helpful info, but I'll throw it out here anyway: I by chance was talking to a certain manufacturer of southern bricks earlier this week (he answered the damn retail phone number, which I called just to order some DATs!) and asked him about this, about my current DAT-based rig and about the current HD solutions... he said there were one or two "big names" who did not want to go on record with whom he has had some discussions recently that give him hope that such a solution may be a reality in the not-too-distant future (but years, not months)...something small too.

That's not surprising. The technology is here and manufacturers have finally started to combine it to a complete all-in-one. Sonosax has already claimed they are in the process of doing this and *small* too (but PRICY!).
Out of the game … for now?

Just opened up the box and I'm very impressed.  The pictures do not do this thing justice.  While its smaller than the V3, it feels more dense and equally as sturdy.  Too bad there is no one to see in or around town this weekend...

I'd have done it if I knew about it beforehand!  I could fit it all in a shoe box ;D

I am going to Crue, but I our seats are in a corporate box.

You are more than welcome to run it, George, if you can keep it out of your shorts...

Damn, it's a shame they aren't open taping. Bi-Lo did a patdown the last time I was there so I doubt we'd get it in any other way. Can I borrow it for Wilco on Monday?

Makin' me feel better and better...  Just boxed the V3 and it is off to GA - Atlanta to a new home.  Very happy to be able to keep it in the family.

My 722 arrives in a week or so...

Thanks to all for the input, photos, ideas..

I know where that V3 is headed! It's in a good home. I'll be seeing (and maybe using it) at the Fox Panic shows for 2 extra channels for a 4 mic mix. ;)

4 mic mixes rule! ;)  I always tell people once they start using 3 or 4 mic mixes, they won't go back.  This is why didn't understand SD's decision to leave out the phantom in two of the four channels in the 744T. Oh well... How are you going to run the 4 mic mix?

I use to do this:

QTC1 ------ 77_77--------QTC1 > Wendt X4 > AD2K > DA-P1

With the QTC1 mics 1 metre apart & the SR-77's in ORTF between them. I mixed them in the Wendt before they went to the A/D converter.
